The development of Skanderborg town centre

WE MUST CULTIVATE THE GOOD IDEAS AND OPPORTUNITIES

The development of Skanderborg town centre is the focal point in the coming years’ work to strengthen the retail trade, business and tourism in the Municipality of Skanderborg.

Consequently, the development of the town centre also ranks very high on Robert Pedersen’s agenda in his role as Business Manager in Skanderborg.

“We must ask ourselves what a flourishing town centre can do for everybody – shops as well as industrial enterprises,” says Robert Pedersen.
“The answer is that an attractive town centre attracts existing and future citizens who are all potential customers in our shops and employees in our businesses.”

Robert Pedersen is himself a relative newcomer to Skanderborg. In 1989, he moved to Skanderborg with his family, taking up a position as branch manager of Jyske Bank. The family came from Holstebro where Robert Pedersen had lived virtually all his life and where he had worked for fourteen years at Holstebro Bank.

As to why he chose Skanderborg rather than other towns, Robert Pedersen says:

“There were several options, but we decided on Skanderborg, partly because of the town’s very central situation in East Jutland and also because of the very beautiful countryside around here.”
Robert Pedersen has been an active newcomer to the area. For example, he has been a member of the Board of Skanderborg-Odder Business College for a number of years, representing Skanderborg Chamber of Commerce, and since 2001 as Chairman of the Board. Furthermore, he is a member of Skanderborg Rotary Club and also enjoys the great outdoors.

Robert Pedersen took up the position as Business Manager with the Municipality of Skanderborg on 1 September 2003 after fourteen years with Jyske Bank. At the same time, he is also the day-to-day manager of the combined Business and Tourist Council, established at the beginning of 2004 to unite the forces of the Chamber of Commerce, the Tourist Association and the Construction and Industrial Association.

About the transition from bank manager to Business Manager, he says:
“Finding myself on the other side of the table has been incredibly exciting. Whereas banking is very much about advising customers, I am now working much more closely with businesses, which means that I am able to spot even more possibilities for development.”

“We are seeing a positive trend in trade and industry with the industrial area which is growing up along the motorway near Stilling. Skanderborg also has a popular festival, a cultural centre and an active retail sector. And then the town is, of course, situated in one of the most beautiful areas in Denmark.”

“My aim is to nurture the creative collaboration that exists between trade and industry, the festival, the cultural and sporting grassroots and the entrepreneurial businesses. We must all cultivate the good ideas and opportunities!”
