LEADING THE WAY AT BÆVERVEJ

Charlotte Andersen, a dental assistant, and Ole Gissel, an estate agent, had few doubts when they were looking for a plot on which to build their dream home. They wanted to leave the nearby towns of Odder and Saksild, respectively, to settle in Skanderborg.
“I knew Skanderborg through my job. Although Skanderborg is a small town, quite a lot is happening here, both when it comes to shopping and culture, and then the motorway is wonderfully close by,” says Ole Gissel.

Charlotte Andersen adds: “When I lived in Odder I sometimes went shopping in Skanderborg. The shops are good, and there are some beautiful walks along the lake.”

Today, their house stands at Bævervej in Højvangen; a rustic house built from light, nougat-coloured brick and with large windows with red mahogany frames. The interior of the 146-square-metre house has a light and spacious feel to it with white walls and high ceilings. Perfection in every detail ...
While they both wanted to move to Skanderborg, Charlotte Andersen and Ole Gissel were also in complete agreement that they wanted to build their house in Højvangen.
“The countryside is wonderful, and there is a network of paths to the schools and shops so we can easily bypass the busy roads. After all that is quite an advantage for the children,” says Charlotte Andersen.

When comparing the Municipality of Skanderborg to other municipalities which he knows through his job as an estate agent, Ole Gissel feels that it is easy to build your own house in Skanderborg.
“Buying the plot was simple and straightforward; however, it was not possible to bend the rules which govern the distance between the house and the perimeter, which must be 2.5 metres,” he says.

“As for actually building the house, there were no problems at all. We chose a local builder for the whole contract, and we have been extremely satisfied with that.”

It is no exaggeration to say that Charlotte Andersen and Ole Gissel have led the way at Bævervej. They were the first to move into the street, and it was about a month before the first neighbours came along and brought a bit of life to the place. The first month was a bit lonely, so today they are very pleased that the new development is now teeming with life.

As is often the case when you build your own house, the first six months have been busy, but as the house and garden are slowly falling into place, Charlotte Andersen and Ole Gissel feel that they can now start enjoying all the things which made them move to Skanderborg. They are looking forward to a trip into town and to taking part in some of the many cultural events.
