A construction of glass and stone was the solution which the architects Ove Rix and Søren Pedersen from Friis & Moltke presented to Bent Krogh in 2001 in response to his request for a new showroom and a renovation of the existing administration facilities. In addition, 1,600 square metres of new production space were established at the same time.
Bent Krogh wanted a building, stringent and plain in expression, utilizing contemporary construction materials such as steel, glass and stone to create a backdrop for various exhibitions.
Basically, the showroom can be characterized as a cubic, glass-green structure, carried by four imaginary walls, a large room with a built-in deck where one can walk halfway up and halfway down the ramp – a good old principle.
All of the above is viewed against a black glass wall at the rear. In the darkness of the night the pavilion is a transparent, luminous crystal prism, full of life behind the windows.
One enters the premises via a forecourt where Erik Heide’s cast-iron bird – a gift to the blacksmith – greets the visitor.
In 2002, an award was given by the Municipality of Skanderborg acknowledging the building among the finest and most beautiful, with the new construction as well as the renovation of the existing one representing plain, simple and beautiful architecture. The design of the complex represents the most elegant combination of the modern choice of materials with the expression of the building itself.
The will and desire to do things his way, to test new materials and to enter into a dialogue with young furniture architects characterizes Bent Krogh, who believes that the way to success goes via the production of long-lasting furniture to very high standards of both design and manufacture.
“We focus on functionality, believing that we can help solve people’s problems or in brief: Make everybody’s working day and everyday life easier,” Bent Krogh says.
