Foreword by the Mayor

The Skanderborg book is a quality product, if only because it reflects the many qualities that characterise our area in an extremely attractive and presentable publication.

Skanderborg is currently in a positive development spiral. We find strength in a range of positive characteristics which are partly connected with our location and partly, but no less importantly, the result of constructive and dynamic collaboration between the citizens of Skanderborg, trade and industry and the
Town Council. These characteristics include:

Beautiful landscape with woodlands and lakes in unspoilt countryside

An attractive and central location in the East Jutland region with access to the wealth of opportunities available, for example centres of higher education and cultural institutions

Extremely good traffic connections via rail, motorway access and airports, all within a reasonable distance

A stable and highly qualified workforce

A diverse and dynamic business structure prioritising a healthy business climate

A wide range of leisure and cultural activities

Good training and retraining prospects

A competitive retail sector selling a comprehensive range of goods

A high and efficient level of municipal service.

I am convinced that on the basis of these positive characteristics we are well prepared to tackle the major challenges which we are likely to face in the coming years:

Clarifying and realising the visions for the future outlined in the plan for urban renewal “Most beautiful at Skanderborg”, a vision for Skanderborg in the year 2015 – by developing retail trade in the town; by developing the town centre; with focus areas such as activities and training courses about holistic health, nourishing the soul and much else besides ...

Planning and developing a new residential area north of the railway, Godthåbsområdet.

Planning and developing a new residential area with recreational facilities between Stilling-Gram/Fruering and Højvangen.

Maintaining the Municipality of Skanderborg’s position as a driving force in the extended future municipal cooperation, whether this cooperation is based on municipal amalgamations or through voluntary collaboration.

Continued rationalisation of municipal operations while maintaining a balance between the level of service, citizens’ expectations and the comparatively low level of taxation that has been established through the interaction between citizens and trade and industry.
