Welcome to the Municipality of Skanderborg  -the most beautiful in Denmark!

The new Municipality of Skanderborg first saw the light of day on 1 January 2007. Almost 55,000 people inhabit the 440 square kilometres that were previously the municipalities of Galten, Hørning, Ry and Skanderborg and the parish of Voerladegård.

The new Municipality of Skanderborg is situated in beautiful countryside with lakes, woodland, meadows and farmland and some of the highest hilltops in Denmark. These unique surroundings in the heart of central and eastern Jutland influence the daily lives of the people who live and work here. Few citizens in Denmark have such outstanding and varying countryside on their doorstep.

Its central geographical location makes the Municipality of Skanderborg a good place to live for people of all ages. Everything is virtually a stone’s throw away in Skanderborg, and the motorway and good bus and rail connections mean that the rest of Denmark and the borders with Germany, Sweden or Norway are only a few hours away. Its central position and proactive business policies also make the Municipality of Skanderborg a popular place and a good collaboration partner for businesses large and small.

Skanderborg – the old market town is the largest in the municipality, followed by Galten, Hørning and Ry. These are surrounded by a considerable number of smaller towns and villages, many of which boast thriving social and cultural scenes. For example, few municipalities have three local cinemas, all run by voluntary staff.

In the Municipality of Skanderborg we are committed to meeting the primary needs of our citizens, such as their need for childcare, education and training, and to providing decent and varied care for our senior citizens. This is a fundamental precondition for development and growth, and will continue to be so in the coming years.
