Galten – a station town along the way Although the railway station closed down in 1956, in the minds of many Galten remains a station town beside the motorway between Aarhus and Silkeborg. However, those who venture into the town of Galten will find a friendly community with excellent shops and lots of new residential properties.
And the old station still dominates the centre of the small square, now accommodating two shops and a pizza restaurant and surrounded by the town centre with its cinema, library, pharmacy, supermarkets, shops and a park. Developments have in no way passed Galten by. Many people live and thrive here. |

Galten – a cultural centre Galten never had the space or the money for a cultural centre as such. Nevertheless, the town and its surroundings boast a number of places and buildings offering a range of cultural experiences for young and old alike. The cinema BIO Huset screens films and is where the many concerts of rhythmical music organised by the music society are performed. Galtenhallen is a power house for sports enthusiasts. |

The main building of the old Porskjær farm offers meeting facilities for Galten’s many societies and associations. The library is first and foremost a library for the local community with its many students, but it also organises events for children and concerts revolving around the library's fine grand piano.
Activities in Galten attract considerable interest from the town’s citizens and rely extensively on volunteers and on the long-standing and strong collaboration that exists between municipal institutions, societies and organisations and the marketing association. Events organised include symphony orchestra concerts, first-class children's theatre, exhibitions by local and outside artists, rock concerts, town festivals, culture nights and important sports events.

Galten – a town with a library
The library moved to the town square in 2001 and offers modern library services for all citizens. Since 2007, the library has been a branch of Skanderborg Kommunes Bibioteker. Galten library is a family library, laid out like a drawing room with lots of bookshelves and plenty of space for children. A special feature are the many fabric and felt creations by the local textile artist Bente Petersen. From fabrics and felt, needles and thread and plenty of imagination and solid craftsmanship she has created the most amazing characters. So amongst the bookshelves visitors to the library encounter felt trolls, snakes and characters known from children's tales such as Hans Christian Andersen’s Numskull Jack and the beloved Mr Peddersen with his cat Findus on his lap.
