Collaborating for everyone’s benefit
Skanderborg ErhvervsUdvikling is an umbrella organisation for four business and tourist associations in the Municipality of Skanderborg – Skanderborg Industrial Association (Skanderborg Industriforening), Retailers in the Municipality of Skanderborg (Detailforeningen for Skanderborg Kommune), Service and Trade (Service & Håndværk) and the tourist association Destination Skanderborg.

The organisation was formed at the end of 2006, just before the implementation of the structural reform of local government in Denmark. The association helps to create growth and ensure the best possible service for businesses, customers and visitors in the Municipality of Skanderborg. The aim is to make the Municipality of Skanderborg one of the most attractive municipalities for businesses in Denmark. This is to be achieved by:

•    Creating growth opportunities for the business community

•    Increasing competitiveness in the area

•    Ensuring a high level of service for tourists

•    Marketing the municipality

•    Ensuring an exchange of experience at all levels

•    Joining forces to offer training and education

•    Safeguarding existing schools and colleges and attracting new educational institutions

•    Contributing to making the municipality attractive for newcomers

•    Contributing to integration in the labour market

•    Launching entrepreneurial activities

•    Discussing issues of importance to the development of the municipality, including overall planning, infrastructure, public transport, culture policy and the location of educational institutions.

Board
The Board has 14 members who are elected for a period of two years at a time. However, the four municipal representatives are appointed for the whole electoral period. The umbrella organisation is headed by Niels Berg-Nielsen, Superbrugsen Hørning from Detailforeningen for Skanderborg Kommune. Deputy Chairman is Per Rasmussen, Steel Coating A/S, a representative of the industrial association.

The other members of the Board are: From the industrial association Søren Nebbegaard, Schultz Seating System. Retailers are represented by Bjarne Thorup, Helsekosten Skanderborg. Participants from Service and Trade are Jørgen Frost Larsen, Arkitektfirmaet Frost Larsen and Arne Brohus, Stream Design A/S. Destination Skanderborg is represented by Anders Svenningsen, Chairman and Egon Petersen, Skanderborg Youth Hostel, while the town council is represented by Mayor Jens Grønlund (Danish Liberal Party), Jørgen Naut (Danish Social Democrats), Lars Vodsgaard (Danish Social Democrats) and Jens Szabo (Danish Liberal Party). Representatives from the Municipality of Skanderborg are Jens Kaptain, Chief Executive and Bente Hornbæk, Head of Planning and Business Development.

Head of Tourism Gert Aastrup Jensen heads the organisation’s secretariat. Moreover, two consultants have been employed to coordinate the joint projects launched.
